The County Program

We’re thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for riders of all levels through our County Level half-leasing program. A way to get your feet wet in the competitive hunter-jumper world without the full commitment of ownership, half-leasing is a perfect solution. Half-leasing a horse is ideal for riders who want regular access to a horse but aren’t ready for the full responsibility of ownership.

What is Half-Leasing?
A half-lease is a shared arrangement where a rider has access to a horse for either two or three days each week. Typically, the rider will lease the horse for two or three days a week, allowing them to ride and care for the horse during those times. This arrangement offers many of the benefits of horse ownership—horsemanship skills, competing, and training opportunities—while reducing the time commitment and financial responsibility.

How Does the Half-Lease Program Work?
  • Leasing Days: Riders typically have access to the horse two or three days per week. This can be customized based on your needs and the horse's availability.
  • Included Care: The full cost of the horse's care, including feeding, boarding, and general veterinary services, is handled by the horse owner. You’ll simply be responsible for your lease payments, which cover the use of the horse and riding facilities.
  • Training: We require that riders are in our Half Training program. Half training includes two lessons per week- one group flat lesson and one group jumping lesson.
  • Horse Care: While the horse will be cared for by the FHF staff, we encourage riders to take part in basic grooming and tacking-up, strengthening horsemanship skills.
Why Choose Half-Leasing?
  1. Access to Quality Horses: At Flower Hill Farms, we have a selection of county show level horse available for half-lease. These horses are suitable for the hunter or jumper ring and up to 2’3’’.
  2. Flexibility: With a half-lease, you’ll enjoy the flexibility to ride on a consistent schedule while maintaining a balance between your horse life and other responsibilities. Whether you’re looking to ride for fitness, leisure, or training, the commitment is tailored to your needs.
  3. Shared Costs: Unlike full ownership, a half-lease offers a cost-effective alternative, with lease payments shared between the owner and the rider. This allows you to experience the joy of horse ownership without the full financial burden.
  4. No Long-Term Commitment: Half-leasing provides the perfect balance between the benefits of regular riding and the flexibility to try new activities or take breaks without the long-term commitment of full ownership. Half- leasing contracts are month-to-month and require a 3o days notice to terminate.
